Me and My Sketchbook

I've been using my sketchbook a lot lately.

Lot's of new jewelry designs leaving my pen.

And the best part is actually bringing those sketches to life.

I love it.

Sketchlings

I know. I should be working on my jewelry submission. I should be making things to post to the shop... but I just can't help it! I have to SKETCH! O_O (I took the pics on my new HTC Evo phone. YAY!)

I've signed up to go back to school. I think it's the best thing for me in order to move forward in my life. My job isn't really moving forward. In fact, with the company filing for bankruptcy protection, my job has been in danger for a while. I've been looking for jobs (sent my resume to Stampington two weeks ago but haven't heard back :( ) but without the actual "manager" title, I don't think anyone is really going to want to hire me... no matter that I do have managerial duties. But that thinking is taking me down a dark path.

I signed up to go back to school because... get this... I want to make plus-sized clothes for petite women. I'm a big girl. But I'm also 5'0". Do you know how hard it is for me to buy clothes!?

Anyway. It's an idea I've been bouncing around.

Let's hope I go through with it, yes?

Happy Monday, lovelies!

Hello, November

Wow. November is already here!

It was RH's birthday on the 22nd of October. And because he's such a dear, he said he wanted to go to the San Diego Zoo (which is what I wanted to do for my birthday but we couldn't afford it).

I did quite a bit of sketching. Not enough photo-taking, I think. Last time we went to the zoo, I took about 800 pictures of the polar bear playing with some tree branches.

So many of the animals were fighting. The rhinos were fighting, the sun bears were fighting, and someone said that the polar bears were at it too. We didn't see the polar bears fighting, thank goodness. I love polar bears and probably would have been very upset to see them bloodied up.

Below are some sketches from my handy-dandy sketchbook. I'm not very good at cats but I certainly did try.

Anyhoo... happy November, all! I read somewhere that November is Blog Month or something and some people are trying to write a blog a day for the entire month of November. Guess who's going to try and keep up with that challenge?

Hooty-hoo

My first attempt at drawing an owl. Not very owl-like in my opinion. RH added the claw to see if it would help it... I don't think it did. Looks a bit like a cat. So. I asked him to draw one...

His attempt looks a bit more owl-like. Though, honestly, I do think he looks a bit like Batman :P

A few more goes and I think I got it. In one of my many books, there are instructions on how to add an illustration to a piece of polymer clay. I see a pendant in my future!

Hopefully :P

Who is "Ahtee?"- Week 4

So, of course yesterday, after being sick in bed the whole day, I couldn't sleep! I sketched these out at around 2am this morning. It's how I see myself.

I'm told I don't have quite as big a face as I draw. Or a double chin that is as noticeable as those in my drawings... but when one does a self-portrait, sometimes they focus on what they don't like and highlight it. At least, that's what I do. These sketches were drawn with pen in my little sketchbook (little meaning 4"x6" maybe...). I wonder. Each sketch is different, but each is me. Do you think so?

This self-portrait project is fun. And I'm glad I'm doing it because its forcing me to post at least once a week. And that's good, I think. Keeps me on track and reminding me that I have an art/jewelry blog and need to keep at it!

I did a semi-autobiographical comic once... I wonder if I should give that a go again. It was fun.

Sleep calls... hopefully some new jewelry next post!

Rainbows and Puppies

My world isn't always full of rainbows and puppies. It's raining right now and after a cold and sad night, it isn't cheering me up like rain usually does. So, I thought I would share some puppy sketches that I did a few days ago. Puppies always cheer me up.

I've drawn quite a few different animals in my 22 years of living. I think I can honestly say I struggle the most with dogs and cats. Wolves, I can do. Tigers, lions... those I can eventually get something decent out of my pencil. But domesticated cats and dogs? I just am never happy with my ("realistic") sketches of them.

These at the top were some doodles I was fooling around with when my eyes grew tired of staring at a computer screen. I think the puppies came out ok. They look a little like Blue from "Blue's Clues," but I rather like the one holding the heart in its mouth. I was thinking of Valentine's Day when I drew that.

Here's to hoping we all get through this Wednesday and make it to Thursday, the beginning of the end of the week :D
