My Current Obsession

Not much jewelry making going on over here. Unless you count what I've been doing at Michaels (did I mention the craft store I work for is Michaels?)... which I don't because it's not MY jewelry.

This is the reason for my non-jewelry making:

Yep. Macarons. I'm obsessed. Sorry to my Pinterest and Instagram peeps who have been inundated with macaron pictures and doodles. I'm not eating them (though the only reason is that I can't find a local dealer... I meant French bakery). I have a series of small illustrations in mind.

My favorite here is the big pen and ink sketch... Tea cup is a thumbnail of an illustration idea. That dark purple cookie was my first color attempt. I think the cookie in the bottom right is adorable.

Marker attempt. It's closer to what I want in an illustration but I was having trouble getting the texture right. See, macaron's have "feet" and they have a bumpy/crunchy texture. But I did these cookies in green... my favorite flavor is pistachio, which is green. YAY!

Last night's watercolor attempt. The texture is a little better. I'm not happy with the filling. Or the shadow at the bottom but it's way closer to what I want.

Soo. Yeah. This is what I'm currently obsessed with. Jewelry will come back. I have designs waiting in the sketchbook and new beads that came today so don't worry! Beady love will return soon :)

Have you had macarons yet? What's your favorite flavor?

One last sketch before I go. A gypsy dancer! YAY!

Work in Progress: Ballerina

Last night, daylight savings time ended so I thought I'd use that "extra hour" do start a new drawing.

Sorry the picture isn't very good. I only had my camera phone.

It's a ballerina on tinted paper. It feels good to be working with colored pencil again. Not sure what I'll do with it after... sell prints, maybe?

I stayed up really late thinking "Oh, so, it's 3am... but it's really 2am... so I could probably stay up another hour..." And then woke up really late (though my phone informed me I got 7 hours of sleep... don't feel like it was that much). Siiiigh. Really gotta watch the sleeping habits. Lol.

I'm off to visit my parents and brother's family in a little bit. Excited to see my nephews.

Happy Sunday, all!

Live

Today, I want you to really live.

Yesterday, on my day off, I drew this. Its pencil, Prismacolor markers, and ink on bristol board. I had kind of a crappy day yesterday. Money problems (my main food for the past week has been potatoes) just won't go away. But, I just need to remember that life is meant to be lived. And that is what I intend to do. No matter what happens, I will live. I will deal with it and come out alive.

Today, I also intend to smile.

Rainbows and Puppies

My world isn't always full of rainbows and puppies. It's raining right now and after a cold and sad night, it isn't cheering me up like rain usually does. So, I thought I would share some puppy sketches that I did a few days ago. Puppies always cheer me up.

I've drawn quite a few different animals in my 22 years of living. I think I can honestly say I struggle the most with dogs and cats. Wolves, I can do. Tigers, lions... those I can eventually get something decent out of my pencil. But domesticated cats and dogs? I just am never happy with my ("realistic") sketches of them.

These at the top were some doodles I was fooling around with when my eyes grew tired of staring at a computer screen. I think the puppies came out ok. They look a little like Blue from "Blue's Clues," but I rather like the one holding the heart in its mouth. I was thinking of Valentine's Day when I drew that.

Here's to hoping we all get through this Wednesday and make it to Thursday, the beginning of the end of the week :D
