Button Swap Reveal!

It's here! IT'S HERE!!! The Button Swap Blog Hop! WOO!

Let's get started.

Here's what my lovely partner, Shanti, sent me.
Such pretty buttons! I decided to play with 2 of the shank buttons. I'll admit, I was not as creative as I would have hoped, but my muse is on vacation, apparently. Or focused on drawing and painting. ANYWAY, here's what I made.

This sparkly shank button makes a lovely and elegant focal. I used teal and mint green beads in the necklace to give it a bit of playfulness. I'm not the best at making necklaces but I do adore them. I used to think I was terrible at making bracelets but I think I've gotten over that little bit of self-doubt. Hopefully, I can get over this bit as well.

Now for my next piece.

I'm so in love with sari ribbon. And I decided to use the long shank button in a bracelet.

When I saw this sparkly focal, I knew I had to have it. I knew it would work wonders in another "rustic elegance" piece.

Here's what I came up with.

I know. A button as a clasp. Not too terribly inventive but this bracelet makes my body dance with happiness. Seriously. I put it on and I can't help but shake my wrist to get the danglies moving and then my shoulders move and before I know it, I'm in a down right boogie. Lol.

I still have three buttons to play with. I'm going to do some hopping and hopefully get some inspiration as to what to do with them!

Want to hop with me?

BTW: Replenishing Supplies

So. Not really a table post, but it does have beads! Lol. Supplies are low so I had to go and buy more. Well. That's my excuse, really. I've just been depressed and needed to do a little retail therapy. Not much... just a little.

This is one of my fave bead stores. It's a tiny little store in Orange, CA called Beads Beads. It's on a busy street and is so small, you'll probably miss it on the first few goes. I always shoot for the Bank of America it's next to but still tend to miss the shop and have to double back.

It's tiny but chock full of beady goodness. A really good selection of Czech glass beads. I usually buy strands here. I have yet to look at their charms or stones, which they keep behind the counter but I make good use of my time and money buying beautiful Czech glass.

And seed beads, of course! For someone who mostly wire wraps them or uses seed beads as spacers, their little tubes are excellent. The white capped tubes are only $0.95! Red is $1.25 and if you need something fancy, black caps are $2.95. There are their size 11s. Size 15s, 8, and 6 are on the other side of the shop and just as well priced (in my opinion).

Here's my haul. Not very big, but it makes me all warm inside. They have some lovely wood beads and I snagged a strand. Their lucite flowers aren't the best priced but they have flowers I haven't seen elsewhere so I snagged some too. Czech glass and seed beads made it into my basket as well as a half-off strand of stone labeled "oyster opal," which I must do research on but for $2, I had to have it. I had a list of beads I wanted to buy on my phone but somehow, managed to forget the amethyst and peacock blue size 8 seed beads! Oh no. Another trip will have to happen again soon... :P

I also needed some buttons and made my way to a craft store. BUT! They didn't have the buttons I needed. Sadness. I'm wondering if they're no longer carrying the design I want and am a little worried I won't be able to replace my used up stock. I finally have a few designs that are popular and the buttons I need feature in one of them. Blah.

My last stop was San Clemente Art Supply. They carry my waxed Irish linen cord. I haven't had the funds to buy all the colors I want in bulk yet so when I get the money, I make my way over to San Clemente and buy 20 yards of a few colors. It lasts me a good while and they're awesome. When I was in art school, I tried to get as much of my supplies from them as possible. I don't do much painting and drawing now but when I do, I still buy from them as often as I can. Support small businesses!!!

Sorry this wasn't a real table post. Tomorrow, I'll try and have something more to show you!

What's on your bead table today?

Time for lunch?

Woke up and had a rough conversation with my student loan people. "Loss of job" is a silly reason to want to change the day of your student loan payment, apparently.

SOOO, after breakfast, I dove into finishing up a submission I'm turning in on the 15th... a few hours later, I knew it was time for lunch when this happened:

I remembered to check the knot before closing this cover... but I trimmed the ends BEFORE checking and sooo, I can't make the knot bigger. AAAND... I got mad and growled and my tummy responded with it's own growl and that's when I made myself some quinoa and veggies.

Will redo the bracelet tomorrow. :)

Also made some hairpins. Love? I love. :P

Friday tomorrow! And Veteran's Day! YAY!

Beads, Buttons, and Poker

RH and I were playing cards last night (he kicked my butt at War). Before we dealt out the cards, I wanted to pull out the above beads for a project I have in mind. Out of his mouth comes this: "We could totally play for beads and buttons." Instantly, I thought of playing poker with my beading heroes and friends, using beads and buttons as our currency.

Oh, I'd probably lose. I suck at poker. I have a terrible poker face. But, still, fun to think about.

RH and I discovered we like playing Go Fish. Ahh... to be in love. :P

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Ceramicy Goodness- Etsy Treasury

Instead of a boring post about my theory as to why I still feel sick, I created an Etsy treasury of beautiful handmade ceramicy goodness. Happy Monday!

It was the next logical step...

I made buttons. Yep! I MADE buttons. I had some left over fabric from a favorite shirt. I've used it in projects before but had no idea how to use the rest. Well, after walking around JoAnns with the boyfriend and also visiting a few craft fairs, I decided I wanted to make cloth buttons! And last night the boyfriend showed up at work and surprised me with a button making pack! I made four buttons today :) Now... what will I do with them?

Carried Away in My Obsession?

Thursday night: pizza for dinner, dreaming about owning pets again, and talking about the button sale at JoAnns.

ME: "BUTTONS!!!"
ROD: "Ok. I'll let you name one of our pets Buttons."
ME: "Can it be the German Shepard?"
ROD: "... I don't think he'll let you call him that..."

The boyfriend is probably right. No respectable German Shepard will let me call him Buttons. The pizza was yummy... and what did I walk away with from the sale that started on Friday?

THESE BEAUTIES!-

I'll be honest, I put back more than half of what I originally dropped into my basket. But it's still quite a few buttons, no?

But... I've already put them to good use with those pretty earrings...

And this bracelet!

I feel lazy summer days creeping up on me. Hopefully, its just a phase!

Links tomorrow! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

And now, back to the BUTTONS

LOOK! I found the cord to my camera!

So that means my break is over. It started out as me thinking I needed to just RELAX. Just breathe and enjoy my life. And then I had things to post and couldn't find my cord! BOO!

Oh well. There's a post now, right? :D

BUTTONS still make me happy. I find myself staring at clothes, wanting just the buttons. My boyfriend wonders when I will start "cannibalizing" my clothes for their precious buttons. Well, let me tell you what, Mr. Hillen- I have no intention of taking buttons off of my clothes... your clothes, however, are free game! MWAHAHAHA!!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend! Links on MONDAY!!!

Button Chandelier Earrings

These are the first thing I made with the vintage buttons Tish sent me (thank you again, Tish!!!)! Also... first thing I made with my new wire jig! I had this image in my head the moment I opened the box. It was an amazing feeling to actually bring it to life. My fingertips kinda hurt from bending the wire but it was worth it.

I don't think I make enough blue jewelry. Or yellow... or button jewelry :P

EDIT- I forgot to mention that the blue beads are all glass... I like the dark blue ones because they look like stones.

A Wonderful Surprise!

Yesterday started off as another crappy, depressing day in the world of unemployment. When I went home to change (and lie down before my head exploded) for a get together for my boyfriend, I was greeted by a package in front of my door.

Inside this package?

BUTTONS!!!

Tish knew how much I am into buttons right now and sent over some vintage buttons from her collection! FIVE full bags of them!!! The black one there is one of my favorites. :)

Thank you so much, Tish! You are so awesome!

I never knew...

... buttons could be so much fun!!!

I started this bracelet on a gloomy day and it made me smile. Along with the purple and yellow flower buttons are green Chinese crystals and pink glass beads. The cotton clasp and links are made with brass wire. The dark brass chain gives it a little... umph, i think. :D

Classy earrings, no? Two simple black buttons and clear Chinese crystal for sparkle.

I feel so productive :P

BUTTONS! BUTTONS! BUTTONS!

Lorelei has made some wonderful button jewelry... This post is a favorite of mine.

Sooo...

I bought some buttons of my own to play with :D

I think the flower buttons will probably end up being clasps... easy, I know but hey, baby steps, yo :P

I have an idea for the other buttons but I'm not sure yet. Hmmm....

Yay for trying something new! Buttons!
